Currencies

Every amount in its own currency, reported in yours

Funds in USD and GBP, companies in CHF. Valued keeps each amount in its currency and converts at the ECB rate of the value date.

Fund portfolio analytics
  • ECB reference rates, fixed per payment on its value date
  • Fund-currency and reporting-currency figures side by side
  • Reporting currency switchable at any time, totals rebuilt from the payments
  • Rates retrievable and checkable, per payment, against the ECB's own publication

Five rules, applied the same way every time

Currency handling goes wrong when the rules are implicit. These are the ones Valued follows.

The amount keeps its currency
A USD fund is a USD fund. Calls, distributions and NAV are stored in USD, and the USD figures stay visible next to the converted ones.
The rate is fixed on the value date
Each payment is converted at the ECB reference rate of the day it was paid. It is not restated when the rate moves later, so historical IRR and DPI stay historical.
NAV is converted at the report date
Your share of a fund's NAV is converted at the rate of the report's date, which is the date the value refers to.
Reporting currency is a view, not a rewrite
Switch from EUR to CHF and every total is rebuilt from the underlying payments and their rates. The record itself does not change.
Rates are the ECB's
Reference rates published by the European Central Bank, retrieved through the Frankfurter service. Not a proprietary feed, so they can be checked.

Add a foreign-currency fund and check the numbers yourself.

The rate used for every payment is shown next to it. If you disagree with a rate, you can see exactly which day it came from.
